Dr Somwung Pitiyanuwat is the Director of The Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (ONESQA), Thailand. He has worked in the field of education since 1976. Previously, he was Dean of the Faculty of Education of Chulalongkorn University. He was on Development Chairman of Chulalongkorn University as well as the Education Advisor to the President of Chulalongkorn University from 1993-1996. He has been the Vice President for research affairs for Chulalongkorn University since 2000. He has also been a member of the Executive Committee and Chairman of the Taskforce on Teachers Faculty Staff, and Educational Personnel since 2000. He gained his PhD in Educational Psychology as the University of Minnesota.

Dr Somwung has been the director of ONESQA since 2001 and has been instrumental in shaping the both Thai Quality Assessment and Educational Reform at all levels of educational institution. He is a member or numerous national and international boards and committees concerned with educational development and quality assurance. He regularly presents QA papers at international conferences. He has published 8 books in Thai and 2 books in English as well as dozens of research papers in both English and Thai.

Dr Somwung is the host of the upcoming ASEAN Quality Assurance Network (AQAN) 2009 Roundtable Meeting in Thailand. He will also organize and host the 2010 APQN Annual Conference in Thailand.
