Prof. Peiris is the Specialist in Quality Assurance and Accreditation (QAA) attached to the QAA Council of Sri Lanka. He also has three years experience with the World Bank project on QA and is responsible for the establishment of the QAA system in Sri Lanka. During this period he was able to inculcate Quality Culture into the University system and was able to conduct many external reviews and publish research papers to share his experience. Two papers were presented at the 1st ICAQHE and another at the APQN/AGM – 2007 in Kuala Lumpur.

In the past 15 years, he has been engaged in various activities related to improvement of quality of teaching in the University system. He has travelled to several countries; Indonesia, Thailand, Russia, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Netherlands, France, UK, Canada and USA to share his experience and to participate in seminars/workshops on QA. Prof. Peiris obtained B.Sc. Degree from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and both the postgraduate degrees, M.Sc. and Ph.D., from the Pennsylvania State University, USA.
